Being placed on endangered species lists
What are the advantages and disadvantages of each solution?
Captivity:
Laws
Being placed on lists
- Advantages: know where they are, better life, population study/control, learn more about their habits
- Disadvantages: cant keep them entertained as much, if they are kept captive for too long then they may forget about the wilderness and will not be able to return to their original habitat
Laws
- Advantages: supposed to help by creating protected land
- Disadvantages: natives don't listen and still kill them
Being placed on lists
- Advantage: they are being recognized as endangered
- Disadvantage: not many organizations are putting it on their lists. There is no universal list. People may see that they are so at risk, that they may try to create a monetary gain from it by any means necessary, like it’s fur, or trapping and selling it or even allowing others to come hunt on the protected land.
How could the solutions lead to new problems?
Captivity
- Human interaction and artificial environments can directly affect all aspects of their lives. (mating, food sources, predators, ect)
- With the laws not being as effective as it should be, the next step would be to make stricter laws. However, doing so could lead to the natives revolting.
- Could create a false market for aye-aye’s as stolen/shipped animals, or even aye-aye meat, or aye-aye pelts.
